BARCIK honors Dwijen Sharma on his birth day

The 85th birth anniversary of Dwijen Sharma, a nature lover and environmentalist was nationally celebrated on 12 June, 2015 in Dhaka at Sawkat Osman auditorium of Sufia Kamal Public Library. The event was inaugurated by famous artist Hasem Khan. The whole event was followed by nature fair, art exhibition and inauguration of book which was written focusing on his life and works.

In the second session of the day, being presided over by Dr. Hayat Mamud, a discussion was held where cultural Affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP attended as chief guest. The other guests of the discussion include edizennvironmentalist and writer Biprodas Barua, Cultural Personality Ali Zaker, Poet Nirmalendu Goon, the eminent ornithologist or bird specialist Inam Al Haque, Profesor Dr. Ainun Nishat, writer Mofidul Haque, Executive director of BARCIK Mr. Sukanta Sen, coordinator Pavel Partha, Zahangir Alam and Fardous Ahmed Uzzal. In his speech as chief guest of the event honorable minister Mr. Nur said, “Dwijen Sharma is our inspiration. If we see the nature through is eyes we could perceive the importance to preserve and protect the environment for a green shape. Therefore, I ask all, particularly the young generation to imitate the footstep of Dwijen Sharma to protect our nature from degradation.”

However, BARCIK honored Dwijen Sharma on his birthday through presenting a crest and his portrait. Besides, BARCIK participated in the nature fair which was arranged to mark his birth day by giving a stall displaying books, almost disappeared rice seeds, uncultivated plants and some other almost extinct biodiversity. The calendar and publications of BARCIK were also distributed among the visitors.
