International women’s day 2012 observed

BARCIK along with some local farmer’s and women organizations today arranged a seed fair, rally and discussion to mark the international day of women in Shymanagar with participation of more than 150 women, students, journalists, local administrative bodies and civil society.

In the event the organizations organized seed chain and seed rally where all the participants participated. One hundred women were provided local varieties of vegetables seeds to farm in their homestead garden and fields with the aim to reduce dependency on markets seeds and encourage women conserving biodiversity through increasing diversity of plants and crops.

In the meantime to contribute in keeping environment balance through stopping use of chemicals. The discussants in the discussions emphasized on empowering grassroots women and stopping all kinds of violence against women. They also recommended encouraging women practicing and sustaining sustainable agriculture.
