Policy and Advocacy

The objective is to organize review government and international policies to understand the key socio-economic and environmental issues to make advocacy and campaign to influence the policy makers.

Some of the key advocacy issues, which BARCIK has been involved with previously include:

  • Genetic Resource
  • Disaster management and Local/Indigenous Knowledge
  • Climate change adaptation and local/indigenous knowledge
  • Rights and access to market of the non-timber forest products users in Sunderbans;
  • Rights and responsibilities of youth
  • Protecting violation against plants, animals and natural environment.  

Awareness and Information Sharing

Regular seminars and workshops on key issues such as genetic manufacturing of food, disaster management, human rights and gender equality are conducted both at the local and national level.  The awareness programs have often included key resource persons to present papers on contemporary issues to broaden perceptions of the selected participants.

Ongoing and Past Information Sharing programs conducted include:

  • Women’s’ Rights
  • Rights of the urban poor people
  • Biodiversity Conservation and livelihood Rights;
  • Short course on Interdependency, diversity and development.
