Sukanta Sen
Executive Director

Mr. Sukanta Sen has over 30 years of experience in action research, planning, and program facilitation in the fields of Agroecology, Food Sovereignty, and Climate Justice in Bangladesh. Throughout his journey, he has consistently emphasized the value of local and indigenous knowledge, ensuring that community wisdom remains central to sustainable solutions. As  the founder of BARCIK in 1997, Mr. Sen played a pioneering role in shaping the organization’s vision for promoting agroecology and people-led development. With an academic foundation in Geography from Jahangirnagar University and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from the State University of Bangladesh, he has combined scholarly knowledge with grassroots practice to drive impactful change.

Since the 1990s, Mr. Sen has been deeply engaged in participatory action research, policy advocacy, institutional capacity building, facilitation and publication works. He specializes in participatory approaches and tools such as Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA/PLA), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and Environmental Management Systems (EMS). As principal researcher, he has coordinated numerous studies on agroecology, food sovereignty, agricultural biodiversity, and climate change, linking local experiences with broader policy discourse. His expertise and commitment have taken him to several national and international trainings, seminars, and conferences, where he presented research and shared insights on natural resource management, climate change, and indigenous knowledge systems. Currently, as the Executive Director of BARCIK, Mr. Sen is a key facilitator of the Peoples’ Led Development (PLD) approach in Bangladesh, contributing significantly to improving rural livelihoods, strengthening community resilience, and advancing empowerment processes.

Beyond his organizational leadership, Mr. Sen is also a communicator and knowledge-sharer, serving as the editor of the Bengali monthly bulletin Amader Paribesh (Our Environment) and the annual journals Trinamul Uddyog (Grassroots Initiatives) and Grassroots Voice, which amplify grassroots perspectives on ecology and justice.

Pavel Partha
Director, Education culture and Diversity

Pavel Partha has been working for BARCIK since 2003. Currently he is assigned as Director of Diversity, interdependence & pluralism of the organization. The struggle for forest rights of indigenous people, protection of biological diversity, eco-feminism, ecological justice, local knowledge and ethno-science, climate politics, development disaster, jhum cultivation and agrarian revolution are the major fields of his works. He completed his M.Sc degree in Botany from Jahangirnagar University and conducted a pioneering large scale ethno-botanical research in Bangladesh. He is a researcher, a writer and a organizer as well. Mr Partha is the author of `Khaddo, Longhon O Lorai (an eco-political analysis of food security and food struggle in Bangladesh; 2010, in Bengali)’, `Aronner lorai (forest policies and forest rights of indigenous peoples of Bangladesh; 2010, in Bengali)’, `Uttarbanger Adibashi Muktijoddha (Freedom fighters of Indigenous Community in North-Bengal; 2009, in Bengali)’, `Madhupurer Pranboichitro (biological diversity of Madhupur Sal forest-an political ecological analysis of forest relationship of indigenous peoples of Madhupur; 2004, in Bengali)’, `Krisohker beej adhikar (seed situation and farmers’ seed rights of Bangladesh; 2004, in Bengali))’. He has compiled and edited the books titled `Grammen Jibonjatra mela 1415 (a compilation of rural agro-biodiversity and livelihood fair; 2009, in Bengali)’; `Nao-jatra (compilation of a peoples’ campaign on boat-caravan for sustainable agriculture and economic justice in the haor areas; 2008, in Bengali and English)’ and `Jatiya Beej Ghosona 1411 (a booklet on National seed declaration 1411)’. Mr Partha has attended several national and international seminars, trainings and conference and presented papers based on those issues he has been working for since 2003. .

Syed Ali Biswas
Director, Agro-ecology & Food Security

Syed Ali Biswas has been working with BARCIK since 2003. After Completion of his graduation and post graduation in Anthropology from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology he joined BARCIK as an assistant program officer. With the objective to study the livelihood options as well as lifestyle of rural people he spent his first three years at field site Netrakona. Staying there and being able to have close interaction with the community people Mr. Biswas observed that rural people earn their live and livelihood by sharing and exchanging their knowledge, skill, experience, resources and technology with each other. This livelihood pattern is environment friendly and ensures the proper use and management of natural resources. Thus, Mr. Biswas has been working for BARCIK with utmost care and sincerity to contribute in the inclusion of these grassroots initiatives into mainstream development process. However, Mr. Biswas is one of the main facilitators of biodiversity conservation, climate change and food security program, the core program of BARCIK. He has attended national and international seminars, workshops, conference and discussion to gain more insight, experiences and skills as well as to share the people led development initiative with like-minded organizations and individual. Mr. Biswas has so far visited Philippine, India, Nepal, Thailand, South Africa along with his vast experience of visiting different ecological zones of Bangladesh.

Reach Biswas
A.B.M. Touhidul Alam
Director, Agro-ecology & Food Security

A.B.M. Touhidul Alam is an Agriculturist in a career spanning over thirteen years has gained experience in the fields of ecological agriculture and empowering process of marginalized farming communities in Bangladesh. As a Director, his major involvement at present providing technical support to staff and farmers in conducting Applied Agricultural Research for selecting area-specific crop varieties and crop improvement at various AEZ (Agro-Ecological Zones) in Bangladesh. He also conducts sessions on ecological farming, agro biodiversity conservation, indigenous knowledge, eco-friendly farm management and related issues to farmers and other groups. Prior to this position, he served for CARITAS-Bangladesh as Agricultural Extension officer engaged on-farm crop varietals trials in wet land eco-system and also facilitated training workshop on Sustainable Management of Wet-land Natural Resources. Mr. Alam attended local, international and overseas academic education, trainings, seminars, conferences and discussions in Uk, Philippines, South Africa, Nepal and several parts of India entitled on Bio-dynamic Organic Agriculture, Perma-culture Design, Conservation and Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources, Sustainable Agriculture & Food Sovereignty, National Workshop on Farmers’ Seed Rights & Asian Conference on Farmer-led solutions for Food Sovereignty and Climate Change Resilience etc. He has developed a training module titled `Ecological Management of Pests and Diseases’ with complementary pictorial materials which is useful and widely accepted by facilitators and farmers.

Silvanus Lamin
Director, Communication & Knowledge Management

Mr. Lamin has been involved in producing and editing numbers of books associated with climate crisis, sustainable agriculture, environmental issues, gender and indigenous people’s rights issues leading him gathering knowledge on that particular issues. He also has translated numbers of books, documents, articles associated with developmental issues. He is involved in research and internal evaluation process of BARCIK and conducted researches. He has produced numbers of books as well. Mr. Lamin has also been involved in facilitating students to get involved themselves in the acceleration of the solution of social problems with success. In this regard, he facilitated workshops and seminars and provided training to the students. Mr. Lamin acts as executive editor of two journals of BARCIK namely Grassroots Voices (English) and Trinomul Uddyough. He also holds the responsibility of executive editor of a newsletter named Amader Paribesh published by BARCIK. Mr Lamin has an M.S.S and B.S.S on Mass communication and Journalism from University of Dhaka. He has been working with BARCIK since 2005.

Md. Kamruzzaman
Director, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation

Md. Kamruzzaman is the Director, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation of BARCIK. He has over 25 years of experience in the development field, including more than 12 years in management roles, with a strong focus on climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, indigenous knowledge, and rights-based advocacy.

He has supported national policy processes as a climate change expert, including contributing to the Bangladesh government's position papers for UNFCCC COP negotiations. He has experience working with national and global climate finance mechanisms, including the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund. He has also been actively involved in research, policy advocacy, and knowledge generation related to climate change and community resilience.

Mr. Kamruzzaman holds a Master’s degree in Geography from Jahangirnagar University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management from the University of Dhaka. He also completed the Public Health Leadership Professional Development Program at Griffith University, Australia, as an Australian Leadership Award Fellow.
 
 
 
Rupsana Mrong
Acting director, Accounts & Management unit, BARCIK

Rupsana Mrong has been working with BARCIK since 2005. She has more than 7 years of working experience in different areas of Accounts & Management of development organizations. As coordinator of accounts and management unit, Ms. Mrong prepares the final accounts based on the requirement of the Donor, NGO Affairs Bureau and related other sectors. She knowledge on project Accounts, consolidated Accounts, tax, vat, budget, planning, internal audit, operating the accounts software and accounts related various formats. Ms. Mrong obtained graduation and post-graduation degree on Management from the University of Dhaka.

Md. Zahangir Alam
Coordinator, Agro-Biodiversity, Climate Change & Food Security Programme

Md. Zahangir Alam currently coordinates `Climate change, people led development and adaptation program of BARCIK. To implement the program successfully, Mr. Alam facilitates staffs at field levels, formulates plans and activities and ensures the smooth implementation of those activities. He does monitor and visit field sites and provides inputs to the staffs. Mr. Alam was involved in Hoar Agro bio-diversity conservation Program of the organization as well. He has contributed in producing the Haor declaration-2007 and Boat Caravan album (Photo story) and a book titled “Hoarer Jonodalil”. He has been working as staff of BARCIK since 2006 and has visited Asam, Meghaloya, Chennai, Urissa of India and participated in the Climate change Summit held in Bhutan in 2011 which somehow has increased his knowledge and in-sight on those particular issues. Previously Mr. Alam was involved as a teacher of British Columbia School at Adabor, Dhaka from 2001 to 2006 and part time teacher for slum working children of INTERVIDA Bangladesh School, Dhaka. Mr. Alam has an M.Sc and B.Sc degree from the department of Geography under University of Dhaka.

Lipi Kar
Associate Coordinator, Accountant.

Lipi Kar has more than 8 years of working experiences in accounts and administrative department of various development organizations. Currently she works as accountant with BARCIK. Ms. Kar has also gained experiences on auditing. She has audited numbers of organizations’ account in her 8 years career in development sector. The organizations and institutions’ accounts that Ms. Kar has conducted audit include: Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, Jibon Bima Corporation, Shadharon Bima Corporation, Janata Bank, Dhaka Chemical Industries Corporation, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Easter Insurance Company and Oxfam (GB). Previously she served as Account & Administrative Officer in Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum under Danida Project, worked as Account Officer in Disaster Forum funded by Oxfam (GB) and as Accounts Officer in East West Properties Development (Pvt.) Ltd. under the Bashundhara Group. Ms. Kar obtained graduation and post-graduation degree from Rajshahi University on Accounting. In addition, she completed Chartered Accountancy course (C.A) in 1998 under Khan Wahab Safique Rahman & CO chartered accountant. She has been working for BARCIK since 2012.

Shilpi Baidya
Associate Coordinator, Accountant.

Ms. Shilpi Baidya has been working for BARCIK as an accountant since 2011. As an accountant she has experience in preparing financial statements, monitoring daily cash transactions, developing annual budgets and recording all financial activities and dealing with external auditing. She also produces financial reports based on the format provided by different donor agencies. She also conducts training on accounts keeping and facilitates the accountants of BARCIK in different areas working areas. Ms. Baidya received training on “Human Resource Strategic and Policies” conducted by BIM and on “Basic Accounting and Financial Management Manual” conducted by Diakonia,Dhaka. Ms. Baidya has a post graduate degree in Management from the national university.

Shaheda Azbela Purna
Associate Coordinator (Research)

Shaheda Azbela Purna has been employed by BARCIK as a fund-raising officer since 2024. She is in charge of social media of BARCIK producing and sharing contents based on BARCIK’s development works, achievement and success. She is also assigned to update BARCIK’s website, and project proposal writing. Apart from this, Ms. Purna is also involved in content development, translation, and facilitation.  She has earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Rajshahi University's Anthropology department. In her capacity as an anthropologist, she is working to create and mold indigenous knowledge practices into IEC materials for staff and donors.

Amreen Binte Azad
Research and Policy Advocacy Officer

Amreen Binte Azad is currently serving as Research and Policy Advocacy Officer at BARCIK Rajshahi Resource Centre. She holds an academic background in Anthropology from the University of Rajshahi. In her role, she is engaged in identifying urban challenges and conducting research related to climate change, urban resilience, and community development.She is responsible for data collection and analysis, preparation of planning and research reports, and reviewing policies and planning documents relevant to urban issues and rights-based development. She is also involved in the development of training modules and facilitates issue-based discussions, workshops, and dialogues with community members and stakeholders.

She aims to connect community experiences with policy advocacy and inclusive planning efforts.

Gopal Kumar Das
Management Associate, Dhaka

Mr. Gopal Kumar Das has been working with BARCIK since 2000 as a Management Associate. As Management Associate his responsibilities include: providing assistance to maintain the office hour, assisting the management unit, documenting office management related information, assisting staffs in various ways associated with their responsibilities, providing logistic support, event management and computer related services to the staffs etc. Besides, he is also a member of purchase committee of BARCIK. 

Bimal Roy
Regional Coordinator, BARCIK, Manikgonj

Mr. Bimal Roy has been working for BARCIK since 2006. The core responsibilities are project management and support to project implementation, financial management and reporting, and monitoring and evaluation. Build and maintain effective relationships with potential participants and stakeholders, Ensure rigorous monitoring, learning and evaluation system across the implementation of the programme, Ensure quality implementation of projects. Mr. Roy is also facilitates community mobilization, conducts and arranges workshops, seminars & press conference and campaign to familiarize the best practices of community to adapt to climate change as well as lobby for establishing the right of the communities on different issues as advocacy tools. Mr. Bimal also responsible to coordinates reports and plans for the organization. He also facilitates and coordinates BARCIK staffs in Manikganj for implementing of project activities. He also keeps regular communication with local administration; civil society and journalist to link them with BARCIK works. Mr. Roy obtained an M.S.S degree on Political Science from Asian University, Dhaka. Mr. Bimal also involve with different social organization like president of UTTARAN, Advisor of Prothom alo Bondhushova, Manikganj, Secretary of Palok (Bird club), Member of secretary of Shriti Foundation (arrange memorandum for local renowned people), Coordinator of Dhaleshari Nadi rakhma Andolon etc.

Nitai Chandra Das
Accountant, BARCIK, Manikgonj

Mr. Nitai Chandra Das has been working for BARCIK as an accountant since 2006. As an accountant he has experience in preparing financial statements, monitoring daily cash transactions, developing annual budgets and recording all financial activities and dealing with internal and external auditing. He also produces financial reports based on the format provided by different donor agencies. He also conducts training on accounts keeping and facilitates the assistant accountants of BARCIK in different working areas. Mr Nitai received training on “Accounts software, Basic Accounting and financial Management Manual, Human Resource Strategic and Policies” conducted by BIM and on “Basic Accounting and Financial Management Manual” conducted by Diakonia,Dhaka. Mr Nitai has a graduate degree (Commerce) from the national university.

Rasheda Akter
Program officer BARCIK, Manikgonj

Rasheda Akter has been working with BARCIK since 2007 as an assistant Program Officer. Through her sincere works and performance she got promoted to Program Officer. Initially she was responsible to facilitate farmers and rural women to organize meetings, conserve seed, establish seed banks, making organic fertilizers as well as help women community having access to their rights and promote their empowerment. After being promoted to Program Officer she conducts meetings, dialogues and sharing session with youth, women and farmers, coordinates different activities of her fields, creates liaison with government and non-governmental organizations, entities, makes communication with concerned authorities and individuals and conducts campaign activities of BARCIK with the aim to create awareness on gender, agriculture, social responsibilities and climate change issues. Ms. Akter over the years received various trainings on Gender, facilitation, education, PRA, report writing, rice breeding and organizational strengthening to sharpen her knowledge and enrich her skill. Previously Rasheda Akter worked as an assistant accountant with BRAC. She obtained a post graduate degree in political science from the National University.

Shimul Biswas
Program Coordinator , BARCIK, Singair, Manikgonj

Shimul Biswas has been working with BARCIK as a Program Officer and office in charge at BARCIK Singair Resource Centre, Bayra, Manikgonj. Before this, Mr. Biswas worked as an Associate Program Officer and office in charge at BARCIK Raihanpur Resource Centre, Pathorghata, Borguna since February 2012 to june 2013. There are he was involve in facilitating the community led sustainable development initiatives that aims at biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation and mitigation as well as ensuring community peoples’ food security. In this regard, Mr Biswas works with farmers, fishers, youth groups, civil societies and different professional groups. Now He is involved in same group and community at Singair area to established Agricultural Rights Program. As a program officer now he has been prepare yearly, quarterly and monthly action plan of the project, Regular Coordination with staffs and management, facilitate and monitor the staffs and programs, facilitate staffs and FOs members to arrange project events, prepare Monthly, quarterly and yearly progress reports, communicate regularly with local administration, local elected bodies and donor and facilitate staffs for capacity building. Previously Mr. Biswas worked for Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) for 10 years. He has BSS and MSS degree on Political Science under National University.

Sattaranjan Saha
Associate Program Officer, Harirampur, Manikganj

Sattaranjan Saha has been working for BARCIK since 2008. The responsibilities he holds an Associate Program Officer of the organization include: conducting advocacy, assisting farmers and other occupational groups forming organizations, assisting and providing training to farmers about livestock rearing, facilitating farmers and women groups conserving seeds, practicing indigenous knowledge based agricultural works and developing mutual relationship with the occupational groups that BARCIK works with in the area. Mr. Saha received training on gender issue, land reform and land survey, land law management, participatory rice breeding, report writing. Previously he worked for Nijera Kore, a national NGO for seven years. He obtained M.S.S degree on Social Welfare from National University.

Md. Mukter Hossain
Associate Program Officer, Harirampur, Manikganj

Mr Hossain has more than 7 years of practical experience in the field of development, education, health, nutrition and training in the grass root level. He has been working for BARCIK as an associate program officer since 2012. As associate program officer he facilitates farmers conserving biodiversity, arranges and organizes meetings, workshops, motivates farmers in various ways, documents the best practices of farmers to cope with changed situation, helps other occupational groups promoting their rights on natural resources etc. He received training on mass communication, partnership Approach, Women empowerment, Gender equity, Nutrition health, Home gardening, agriculture technologies, Organizational development process and marketing issues etc. Mr Hossain has a Master degree from National University.

Md. Nazrul Islam
Associate Researcher, BARCIK, Manikgonj

Md. Nazrul Islam has been working with BARCIK since 2011 in Manikgonj area as an associate researcher. As an associate researcher he visits field, arranges meeting, organizes focus group discussion for collecting information associate with his assigned research activities. Besides, he conducts campaign activities to create awareness among the community people particularly youth community on minimizing the use fossil fuels concentrating on increasing the use of renewable energy. In addition to this he also organizes formal and informal dialogue with students, farmers and other groups of people to motivate them conserving biodiversity, practicing sustainable agriculture as part of contributing to ease the climate change problem. Mr. Islam is a social activist and voluntarily involved himself in social action issue with the objective to create social harmony and cohesion in the society. Previously he worked as Manikgonj district coordinator of Youth Ending Huger a project financed by the Hunger Project. Mr. Islam has a graduate and post graduate degree in Economics from National University and completed LLB (Pass) Course from the same University. He is member of Manikgonj district Bar Council.

Beauty Rani Sarkar
Program Officer, BARCIK, Manikgonj

Beauty Rani Sarkar has been working with BARCIK as an Associate Program officer at BARCIK Singair Resource Center, Bayra, Singair, Manikgonj. She have been working with BARCIK since 2010.The responsibilities she holds as an Associate program officer of the organization include: arranging meetings , dialogues, human chains, press conferences, visits, cultural programs, art competitions, field day observation, national day observations, documentations, fairs, trainings to create Independent farmers organizations, Increased ecosystem based agriculture, and promoting organic products. Beauty Rani Sarkar works with farmers, youth groups, civil societies and different professional groups. Previously Beauty Rani Sarkar worked for PROSHIKA for 8 years. She have B.A degree on Manikgonj Mohila Degree College.

Sahinur Rahman
Program Officer, BARCIK, Manikgonj

Sahinur Rahman has been working with BARCIK as an Assistant Program officer at BARCIK Singair Resource Center, Bayra, Singair, Manikgonj since June 2013. He is involved in facilitating the community led Farmers Organization to ensuring Farmers Rights. The responsibilities he holds as an Assistant program officer of the organization include: arranging meetings, dialogues, human chains, press conferences, exposure visits, cultural programs, art competitions, field day observation, national day observations, documentations, fairs, trainings to established Independent farmers organizations, ecosystem based agriculture and promoting organic products. Sahinur Rahman works with farmers, youth groups, civil societies and different professional groups. He has B.A degree on humanities group under Govt. Debendra college Manikgonj.

Subir Kumar Sarker
Program Assistant, Ghior BARCIK, Manikgonj

Subir Sarker has been working with BARCIK as a volunteer at Gangdubi area, Manikganj since jan-2014.He is primarily involved in facilitating the community led sustainable development initiatives that aims at climate change, adaptation and mitigation as well as ensuring community peoples food security. In this regard, he intensively campmates with farmer’s, fishers youth groups, civil societies and different professional groups. He also works to uncultivated plants and protesting the environment through their convironment friendly live and livelihood practices over the years he received various trainings and attended workshops on gender facilitation, PRA, report writing, rice breading, development practices, PVS plot, SRI plot etc. MR. Subir Sraker worked for society for social service (SSS) for two years & The mega search Engine & online business directory of Bangladesh trade info for three year & short course in Basic spoken Japanese institute of Modern Languages university of Dhaka. MR. Subir Sarker graduated (Bachelor of social science, BSS) from National University.

Asia Akter
Field Facilitator

Asia Akter has been working with BARCIK as a Field Facilitator at BARCIK Mainkgonj Resource Center, since 2018. The responsibilities she holds as an Field Facilitator of the organization include: arranging meetings, dialogues, human chains, press conferences, visits, information collection, communication with government and non-government service delivery organizations, field day observation, national day observations, documentations, facilitate to arrange fairs, trainings etc. Asia Akter works with women, youth groups, civil societies and different professional groups. She has completed her Master Degree from National University.

Rina Akter
Field Facilitator

Rina Akter has been working with BARCIK as a Project Facilitator at BARCIK Mainkgonj Resource Center since 2018. The responsibilities she holds as an Project Facilitator of the organization include: arranging meetings, dialogues, human chains, press conferences, visits, information collection, communication with government and non-government service delivery organizations, , national day observations, documentations, facilitate to arrange fairs, trainings etc. Rina Akter works with women, youth groups, transports workers, civil societies and different professional groups. She has completed her graduation on  Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) from National University.

Sharmin Akter
Field Facilitator

Sharmin Akter has been working with BARCIK as a Field Facilitator at BARCIK Mainkgonj Resource Center, since 2018. The responsibilities she holds as a Field Facilitator of the organization include: arranging meetings, dialogues, human chains, yard meeting to create awareness. She produces monthly report based on her works. She mainly works with farmers, youth groups to create awareness and motivates. She has completed Higher secondary School certificate (HSC) from Debendra college of Manikgonj.

Beauty Akter Akter
Office cum documentation assistant

Beauty Akter has been working with BARCIK at Manikgonj Resource centre since 2018 as office cum documentation assitant. She has completed Higher secondary school certificate. She is responsible to look after the official documents and maintain the office and composes all documents. 

Md. Shahidul Islam
Regional Coordinator, BARCIK Barind Tract

Mr. Shahidul Islam has been working with BARCIK since 2010. The core responsibility of Mr. Islam as a Regional Coordinator and Researcher include: Coordinating regional project team, project development, documentation of natural resource, indigenous knowledge & climate change adaptation, risk reduction and best practices etc. Mr. Islam also facilitates regional level community mobilization, conducts and arranges workshops, training, seminars, press conference & presents papers on natural resources management, climate change, and local/indigenous knowledge issues & campaign to familiarize the best practices of communities. Mr. Islam attended many seminars, workshops, conference, and discussions arranged in different areas of Bangladesh and abroad to enrich his knowledge and skills. He also keeps regular communication with the regional and local administration; civil society and journalists to link them with BARCIK works. He participated in the United Nation Climate Change Conference (COP-18) held in Doha, Qatar in 2012, and also attended Community based Renewable Energy Access & Implementation Processes training and workshop in India in November 2017. Mr. Islam received BSS & MSS in Anthropology from the University of Dhaka.

Amreto Kumar Sarkar
Program Officer, BARCIK Tanore, Rajshahi

Mr. Amreto Kumar Sarkar has been working for BARCIK since 2011. As an Associate Program Officer (Agriculture) Mr. Sarkar he has been contributing to implement the designed development activities of BARCIK aim at developing the socio-economic status as well as making community people aware about their rights. He facilitates them to get their agriculture related problems solved and having increased access to the services and facilities provided both the state and private sector. Besides, he encourages community people conserving biodiversity, finding means to adapt to changed situation by conducting agricultural research for selection of suitable varieties to cope with climate change etc. Mr. Sorker also is involved in producing reports and feature for publication of BARCIK and documents the best practices of the community people to share with others. He facilitates farmers to adopt sustainable agriculture and leave energy intensive agriculture to contribute in sustainability of the environment. Mr Sarker received agriculture diploma from Agriculture Training Institute in 2009.

Most. Sultana Khatun
Community Facilitator

Sultana has been a community facilitator with BARCIK since 2016. She is in charge of holding awareness events, putting human chains into place, running campaigns and seminars, exchanging and preserving seeds, and sharing experiences. Additionally, she serves as a mediator between the community and necessary governmental and non-governmental groups. Sultana works with some organization that is formed with people from mixed groups and civil societies to strengthen the rights and voices of community people and prepares the monthly report based on her works. She earned her post-graduation from National University at Rajshahi.

Amit Sarkar
Associate Program Officer

Since 2012, Mr. Amit Sarkar has been employed by BARCIK. He began his career in the high Barind region's Nachole upazila as an associate program officer.
Amit has been helping to carry out BARCIK's planned activities, which are intended to improve socioeconomic position and raise community members' awareness of their rights. He makes it easier for them to settle issues pertaining to agriculture and gives them more access to facilities and services offered by the public and private sectors. Additionally, by undertaking agricultural research to choose appropriate kinds and deal with climate change, among other things, he urges community members to conserve biodiversity and discover ways to adapt to altered circumstances. In order to support environmental sustainability, he helps farmers embrace sustainable farming practices and reduce energy-intensive farming.

Mr. Sarkar has been involved in the socio-economic advancement of Rajshahi city's urban poor since 2022. He is working as a partner in the urban poor's struggle for survival and learning about their strategies for adapting to the climate disaster. In order to create a city that is livable for everyone, he is also communicating at the policy level.
In an effort to familiarize communities with best practices, he also organizes and leads workshops, training, seminars, and press conferences at the regional level. He also presents papers on climate change, natural resources management, and local/indigenous knowledge issues and campaigns.

Additionally, he maintains consistent engagement with journalists, civil society, and regional and local administration to connect them with BARCIK's efforts.
Amit contributes to the creation of features and reports for the BARCIK journal.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Open University and a certification in agriculture from the Government Agricultural Training Institute.

 

Tohura Khatun Lily
Community Facilitator

As a community facilitator, Tohura has been employed with BARCIK since 2019. At first, she was in charge of helping slum dwellers plan gatherings, save seeds, and provide opportunities for women and community members to exercise their rights and further their empowerment. The Barendra Youth Forum, which consists of about forty-five youth voluntary organizations, is coordinated and supported by her. She graduated from Rajshahi Agriculture Diploma & Training Institute with a diploma in agriculture and National University with an MBA.

Md Towhidul Islam Islam
Associate Program Officer

Towhidul is working with BARCIK from 2024 as an associate program officer for Poba Upozila at BARCIK. He is involved with the community people to make them aware of their socio-economic rights and accelerate the agroecological practices among the community. Moreover, he also works on conserving biodiversity, resilience towards climate change, and adaptive strategies. For these he is involved in monitoring the action research to identify the proper variety of different crops. He also helps the people of the working area to uphold their innovations for preserving indigenous knowledge. Towhidul promotes sustainable agriculture rather than power-oriented one. He has completed a diploma from Rajshahi Agriculture Training Institute in 2016.

Sumon Ali
Community Facilitator

Since 2023, Md. Sumon Ali has been employed by BARCIK at Poba, Rajshahi. He serves as a community facilitator here. He graduated from National University with a BBA. Prior to joining BARCIK, he worked on the establishment and upkeep of the people's organization. In addition to working with people's groups in six unions, he joined BARCIK. The manufacture of vermicompost, the buildup of model shotobari, the preservation of women's rights, the planting of fruits, woods, and medicinal trees, and the expansion of native crop agriculture with marginalized farmers are his main duties.

Rina Tudu
Community Facilitator

Since 2020, Rina Tudu has been working as a community facilitator with BARCIK. She frequently plans and leads meetings with rural, underprivileged people, raises awareness of women's health issues, conserves seeds, encourages people to exercise their rights, empowers women in many fields, and awakens their interest in growing and consuming safe food. Within her field of expertise, she works with youth and people's organizations. She contributes to social development activities in addition to BARCIK's and the community's efforts.

Sundari Tudu
Community Facilitator

Sundari Tudu has been working as a community facilitator at the BARCIK Tanor Resource Center since November 1, 2023. She is working directly with the tribal and marginalized people of Tanore upazila with the goals and objectives of BARCIK. She is working to encourage marginalized communities to cultivate seasonal vegetables in safe ways, including access to natural resources, food security, establishing climate justice rights, and practicing indigenous knowledge. In addition, she is playing a role in establishing seed houses to protect the sovereignty of seeds and encouraging the people to collect seeds. At the same time, she is also working to bridge the gap between community and the government for accessing their verious services.  Along with this, she established a model house in her place and practice safe vegetable production and seed conservation. She obtained her SSC degree in 2016 and HSC degree in 2018.

Ramkrishna Joardar
Acting Regional Coordinator

Ramkrishna Joardar works as the Acting Regional Coordinator at the BARCIK Shyamnagar Resource Centre, located in Shyamnagar, Satkhira since 2008 at the field level, where he conducted studies on the livelihood options and lifestyles of rural communities in the working areas.

His core responsibilities include project management, support to project implementation, financial management and reporting, and monitoring and evaluation. He also builds and maintains effective relationships with project participants and key stakeholders, ensures a rigorous monitoring, learning, and evaluation system throughout program implementation, and oversees the quality implementation of projects.

Mr. Joardar actively builds rapport with community members and facilitates them in various ways. Through close engagement, he observes local livelihood patterns and gains in-depth understanding of community strengths, limitations, and development potential. This knowledge enables him to effectively facilitate, motivate, and organize communities to establish and claim their rights.

He also assists community members in organizing press conferences, meetings, workshops, and seminars. In addition, he works to encourage the conservation of biodiversity and uncultivated plants, and promotes environment-friendly lifestyles and livelihood practices to protect the environment.

 

Mr. Joardar holds a post-graduate degree from the National University.

Bidhan Modhu
Accountant

Bidhan Madhu works as an Accountant at the BARCIK Shyamnagar Resource Centre in Shyamnagar, Satkhira. He has been affiliated with BARCIK since 2008, serving in roles related to accounts and management, where he maintains financial records and contributes to the smooth implementation of planned activities. Through his work, he also helps explore local knowledge and supports efforts to empower local communities in the working area.

In addition to his accounting responsibilities, Mr. Madhu is actively involved in office management, helping to systematize and maintain an efficient working environment at the BARCIK Shyamnagar office. Mr. Madhu obtained an M.B.S. degree in Accounting from the National University. 

Bidyut Mondal
Accountant

Bidyut Mondal has been working as a Project Accountant for the ENGAGE Project under BARCIK at Paikgacha, Khulna, since 08 May 2025. He has more than six years of professional experience in the accounts and administrative departments of various development organizations.

He obtained an MBA in Finance and Banking from Azam Khan Government Commerce College, Khulna. Mr. Mondal is responsible for preparing final accounts in accordance with the requirements of donors, the NGO Affairs Bureau, and the organization.

He has strong expertise in project accounting, consolidated accounts, tax and VAT management, budgeting, planning, internal audit, and operating accounting software, as well as preparing various accounts-related formats. He also produces financial reports following the formats prescribed by different donor organizations.

Biswajit Mondal
Program Officer

Biswajit Mondal has been working with BARCIK since 2008 as an associate program officer in Shymanagar, Satkhira. The major activities that Mr. Mondal includes: Community people facilitation, motivation, rapport building, documentation of best practices, arranging meetings, workshop and facilitating the community to fight for their rights. Mr. Modal has received several trainings to enrich his knowledge so that he could facilitate community people successfully. He also prepares reports and writes features based on his working experience to familiarize the best practices of the community as well as to advocate for their rights. Mr. Mondal obtained M.A degree from National University.

Mononjoy Mondal
Program Officer, BARCIK Shymnagar Resource Centre, Satkhira

Mononjoy Mondal currently acts as Program Officer of BARCIK Shymanagar Resource Centre in Shymanagar of Satkhira district. He is responsible to formulate a plan and ensure the implementation of activities in accordance with the planning. He is involved in producing the report, monitoring, and evaluation of the associated project in his working area. Mr. Mondal also keeps regular communication with local administration; civil society and journalist to familiarize the activities of BARCIK as well as to facilitate community people having linkage with those administrative and civil society bodies and avail the services they are entitled to receive. Mr. Mondal has received different types of training that enabled him to perform his assigned duties properly. He has a post-graduate degree from National University. Mr. Mondal has been working for BARCIK since 2008.

Mofijur Rahman
Program Officer, BARCIK Shymnagar Resource Centre, Satkhira

Mr. Mofijur Rahman currently acts as Program Officer of BARCIK Shymanagar Resource Centre in Shymanagar of Satkhira district. He is responsible to formulate a plan and ensure the implementation of activities in accordance with the planning. He is involved in producing the report, monitoring, and evaluation of the associated project in his working area. Mr. Rahman is the focal person of climate change Project. He has a post-graduate degree from National University.

Gazi Mahida Mizan
Programme Officer

Gazi Mahida Mizan is a Program Officer at BARCIK Satkhira Resource Center. She works to strengthen community engagement and facilitate initiatives that empower women, youth, transport workers, and professional groups. She coordinates with government and non-government service providers, civil society representatives, and local organizations to ensure effective implementation of programs and services. Mahida organizes and facilitates meetings, dialogues, press conferences, human chains, national day observances, fairs, trainings, and other community-based activities. She supports awareness-raising, capacity building, and leadership development, focusing on areas such as women’s empowerment, social justice, education, health, and community development. She is committed to fostering active participation, skill development, and social responsibility among community members, ensuring inclusive and impactful outcomes for BARCIK’s initiatives. Mahida holds a Master of Social Science (MSS) degree from National University.

Barsa Gain
Field Facilitator

Barsa Gain has been working with BARCIK at the Shyamnagar Resource Centre, Shyamnagar, Satkhira since 2023. She is currently serving as a Community Facilitator.

In this role, she works closely with local communities to promote youth empowerment, leadership development, and awareness on issues such as health risks related to salinity, early marriage, climate change, climate justice, and climate damage mitigation. She also supports communities in achieving food sovereignty through organic farming practices, encouraging the protection of the environment and the strengthening of local knowledge systems through mutual learning and experience sharing.

Barsa actively contributes to expanding climate adaptation practices and enhancing the skills of local communities through the promotion of agroecology and the use of indigenous knowledge to address climate-related challenges. She is committed to fostering women’s leadership to ensure women’s empowerment, rights, and equality. She obtained her MBA in Accounting from the National University.

SM Osman Goni
Campaign & Network Facilitator

S.M. Osman Goni has been working with BARCIK at the Shyamnagar Resource Center since 2024. He is currently serving as a Campaign & Network Facilitator. In this role, he works to strengthen youth engagement and enhance their skills on issues such as climate change, Loss & Damage, and community awareness. He coordinates local youth organizations and brings young people together on a common platform, encouraging their active participation in social and development initiatives.

Osman organizes and facilitates awareness seminars, training sessions, workshops, sports and cultural events, press conferences, human chains, and other community-based programs. He supports the development of youth leadership and promotes engagement in areas such as environment, education, health, and social services, including initiatives on blood donation, tree plantation, prevention of child marriage, and climate action. He is committed to building a conscious, skilled, and socially responsible generation by involving youth in community development and promoting climate-adaptive agricultural entrepreneurship to protect food sovereignty. In addition, he maintains close coordination with journalists, civil society representatives, entrepreneurs, and local administration to strengthen networks and collaboration with BARCIK’s initiatives.

Monika Rani
Associate Program Officer

Monika Rani has been working with BARCIK since 2018 as an Associate Program Officer in Shyamnagar, Satkhira. She works closely with rural communities to understand their livelihoods, strengths, challenges, and local potential.

Through her field engagement and community facilitation, Monika supports local people in organizing themselves, strengthening their community-based organizations, and advocating for their rights. She also promotes biodiversity conservation, protection of uncultivated plant species, and environmentally friendly livelihood practices. Monika has participated in various trainings, workshops, and seminars related to community development, which have strengthened her facilitation and organizational skills. She holds a postgraduate degree from National University.

Protima Rani
Associate Program Officer

Protima Rani has been working with BARCIK since May, 2023, as an Associate Program Officer at the Shyamnagar, Kalbari Office. She works with diverse communities to raise awareness about socio-economic rights and to promote agroecological practices among different groups. Her work focuses on biodiversity conservation, climate change resilience, and adaptation strategies. She is also involved in action research and field observations to identify suitable crop varieties for local contexts.

Protima supports community members in preserving indigenous knowledge and encourages local innovations. She promotes sustainable agriculture as an alternative to input-intensive farming practices. She completed her Master’s degree from Khulna Brajalal University in 2013.

Lepika Gain
Field Facilitator

Lepika Gain has been working with BARCIK as a Field Facilitator at the Shyamnagar Resource Center since 2022. In her role, she organizes community meetings, human chains, exposure visits, and national day observations. She is responsible for information collection, documentation, coordination with government and non-government service delivery organizations, and facilitating fairs and training programs.

Lepika works closely with women, youth groups, civil society members, and various professional groups to strengthen community engagement and participation. She completed her graduation from Govt. Brajalal College.

Maruf Hossain (Milon)
Programme Officer

Maruf Hossain (Milon) has been engaged in social development since 2009 as a volunteer. With support from BARCIK, he co-founded the Sundarban Students Solidarity Team in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, mobilizing youth for humanitarian work, biodiversity conservation, social awareness campaigns, safe water initiatives, anti-dowry and anti-child marriage movements, and support for marginalized communities.

Since  July 2024, he has been serving as a Programme Officer under the Agroecology, Climate Justice, and Food Security Project in Ramjannagar Union, Shyamnagar. His responsibilities include project planning and implementation, organizing meetings and workshops, conducting awareness campaigns, documenting best practices, supporting farmers’ initiatives, and preparing regular reports. Maruf has received professional training from the BARCIK Resource Center and holds a Master’s degree from the National University of Bangladesh.

 
 
Najmunnahar

Since 2024, Najmunnahar has been working as a Community Field Facilitator at the BARCIK Shyamnagar Resource Centre. She regularly plans and facilitates meetings with rural and underprivileged communities, raises awareness on women’s health issues, supports seed conservation initiatives, promotes rights awareness, and works to empower women in various sectors. She also encourages communities to grow and consume safe, nutritious food.

She works closely with women’s groups and community-based organizations, contributing to social development initiatives alongside BARCIK and local communities. She has completed her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC).

Sagorika Mistry
Community Facilitator

Sagorika Mistry has been working with the BARCIK Shyamnagar Resource Center as a Community Facilitator since 2025. In this role, she organizes meetings, human chains, field visits, and national day observations. She is responsible for information collection, documentation, facilitating fairs and training sessions, and maintaining communication with government and non-government service delivery organizations.

Sagorika works closely with women, youth groups, civil society members, and various professional groups to strengthen community engagement and social development initiatives. She has completed her MBA degree from the National University of Bangladesh.

 
 
Ohidur Rahman
Regional Coordinator, BARCIK, Netrakona

Mr Ohidur Rahman presently holds the responsibility of area coordinator of BARCIK Rameswarpur Resource centre in Atpara, Netrokuna. His main responsibilities as area coordinator include: Developing relation with people of all stakes, organizing meetings, seminars and workshops to demonstrate the activities of BARCIK aims at facilitating to promoting the rights of natural resource users on natural resources, Building network between grassroots people and local administration through policy advocacy, creating linkage with like-minded organization and civil society, developing communication strategy to familiarize and promote the eco-friendly life and livelihood of grassroots people, documentation of people’s eco friendly and indigenous knowledge based initiatives etc. Mr Rahman received trainings on participatory impact monitoring and evaluation, climate change adaptation and mitigation; farmers led approach planning, gender sensitivity reporting, documentation, peer learning, workers skill development etc which enabled him to implement the assigned activities properly. Mr Rahman has a post graduate degree in History. Previously he served as area coordinator of Proshika, a national NGO, for 10 years. He has been working for BARCIK since 2007.

Shongkar Mrong
Associate Coordinator, Netrakona

Mr. Shongkar Mrong has been working for BARCIK since 2006. As an associate coordinator his duties and responsibilities include: facilitation of staffs, providing training, arranging workshop. monitoring & evaluation, regular communication with delegates and donors, networking with GO, NGO, INGO, local administrations etc. Mr Mrong also produces reports based on the his works and the project he oversees. He also writes news and features for publication of BARCIK aims at strengthening the advocacy initiative of BARCIK. Mr. Mrong has visited India and Nepal to gain knowledge and experience associated with his works. He has also visited almost all parts of Bangladesh with the aim to contribute in rural sustainable development. Previously Mr Mrong worked for CARITAS Bangladesh, PROSHIKA and CARE-Bangladesh for almost 11 years in different posts. Mr. Mrong obtained MSS from the Asian University of Bangladesh.

Md. Alamgir
Program officer, BARCIK Atpara, Netrakona

Md Alamgir has been working for BARCIK since 2005. The responsibilities he holds as a program officer of the organization include: conducting advocacy, assist farmers and other occupational groups forming organizations, assist and train farmers about livestock rearing, facilitate farmers and women groups conserving seeds, practicing indigenous knowledge based agricultural works and developing mutual relationship with the occupational groups that BARCIK works with in the area. Md. Alamgir received training on livestock development, multiplication and rearing, water management, gender issue, mini hatchery and report writing which help him to carry out the assigned duties properly. Previously he worked for Proshika, a national NGO for five years. He has a post graduated degree from National University.

Happy Roy
Program Officer, BARCIK Atpara, Netrakona

Happy Roy has been working with BARCIK since 2006 as an assistant program officer in the field site of BARCIK namely Netrokuna. However, with the objective to study the livelihood options as well as lifestyle of rural people of the working area, she tries to build rapport with those people and facilitates them in various ways. Ms Roy intensively observes the livelihood pattern of those people and learns about their strength, limitation and the potentiality of the area to be addressed through development activities. Having such knowledge on the life and livelihood pattern of those people has enabled her to facilitate, motivate and organize them to fight for their rights. Presently she is working to organize and strengthen the existing organizations of those people which they have formed being facilitated and motivated by BARCIK. She also works to encourage people conserving biodiversity, uncultivated plants and protecting the environment through their environment friendly life and livelihood practices. Ms Roy has attended several workshops and seminars and received trainings associated with her works leading her to sharpen and develop her facilitating and motivating skills. She has a post graduate degree in Geography.

Khadiza Akhter Lita
Program officer, BARCIK Atpara, Netrakona

Khadiza Akhter Lita joins BARCIK as an associate program officer in 2012. As an associate program officer, she facilitates farmers to adopt environment friendly agro practices and in the same time documents the ecology friendly local practices of the farmers and other occupational groups with the aim to promote their ecology friendly initiative to contribute in climate change adaptation and mitigation process. She has had training on participatory rural appraisal (PRA), facilitating skill development, group development, human rights and equality, disaster management, leadership development, training of trainers (TOT) and office management. Previously she worked for FIVDB for few years. She was graduated from National University.

Rukhsana Rumi
Associate Program Officer, BARCIK Atpara, Netrakona

Rukhsana Rumi works as an associate program officer  of BARCIK at Rameswarpur Resource Centre in Atpara, Netrokuna. She was affiliated with BARCIK from 2007 working as field officer to document indigenous knowledge based agriculture practices as well as to gather information about the life and livelihood of the community people.  Previously she worked for Polly Mangal and Gharani. She was graduated from National University.

Noni Gopal Dalu
Program officer, accounts and Management

Noni Gopal Dalu has been working for BARCIK since 2012. The responsibilities he holds as a program officer of accounts and management include: coordinate the accounts, prepare financial reports, checks bill and voucher, conduct internal audit of the financial activities, maintains the daily expense and budget, prepares different formats associated with accounts and management. He has received training on accounts and management, audit, financial report preparation etc.   He has a post graduated degree on accounting from National University.

Parboti Rani Singh
Program Officer

Parboti Rani Singh has been working with BARCIK since 2012. The responsibilities she holds as a program officer of the organization include: conducting advocacy, assist farmers and other occupational groups forming organizations, assist and train farmers about livestock rearing, facilitate farmers and women groups conserving seeds, practicing indigenous knowledge based agricultural works etc. She received training on climate change adaptation, mitigation, sustainable agriculture, gender, report writing which help her to carry out the assigned duties properly. She has a post graduate degree from National University.

Goonjon Rema
Program Officer

Goonjon Rema has been working with BARCIK since 2012. The responsibilities he holds as a program officer of the organization include: Coordinating the program in Upazila level, conducting advocacy, assisting farmers and other occupational groups forming associations, facilitating the indigenous communities to fight for their rights, assisting farmers and women to conserve seeds, prepare organic manure and pesticides and encouraging them to practice indigenous knowledge based agricultural works etc., arranging workshop, seminar and press conference and documentation. He received training on climate change adaptation, mitigation, sustainable agriculture, gender, report writing which help him to carry out the assigned duties properly. He has a post graduate degree from National University.

Sohel Rana
Associate Program Officer

Sohel Rana has been working with BARCIK since 2012. He has completed higher secondary school certificate and has been engaged with BARCIK over the last 10 years. As an associate program officer he arranges meetings, household meetings, and yard meetings, collects information, and documents the livelihoods struggles of the rural people. He also facilitates the women and farmers to conserve local varieties of seeds, practice sustainable agriculture. He assists the communities to establish seed banks as well. Mr Rana also responsible in organizing workshop, campaigns, seminars and press conferences to familiarize as well as to press the problems that rural communities face. He received trainings on sustainable agriculture, people led development, participatory varietals selection and climate change adaptation.

Abdur Rob
Assistant Researcher

Abdur Rob has been working with BARCIK since 2012. He is mainly responsible to look after the applied research of BARCIK in Netrakona region. He facilitates the farmers to conduct participatory varietals selection, seed conservation, and seed multiplication, updates the seed register books and prepares reports based on the findings of the action research. As an assistant researcher Mr. Rob conducts meetings, discussions and facilitates different types of dialogues in the working area. He also partly oversees the office management related activities in Netrakona and coordinates the office management related activities accordingly. He received training on sustainable development, agroecology, gender, climate change adaptation etc. He has completed graduation from National University.

 

Tohura Akter
Community Facilitator, Netrakona

Tohura Akter has been working with BARCIK since 2012. She is a community facilitator and facilitate the youths to make them aware regarding the impact of climate change and their role. She co-facilitates training on climate change, resilience building and conflict transformation. Her responsibilities also include: arranging meetings, yard meetings, discussion, workshop and information collection. She received training on climate change adaptation, conflict sensitivity, gender and sustainable development. She has completed higher secondary school certificate.  

Nayon Mia
Community Facilitator

Nayan Mia has been working with BARCIK since 2011 as community facilitator. He facilitates the local farmers to conduct action research with the aim to find suitable crop varieties for the area. In his supervision, farmers of the area thus conduct participatory varietals selection (PVS) with different crops comprise rice, vegetable and pulse. Nayon Mia himself is a farmer and has been practicing sustainable agriculture for years. He does not have formal educational qualification but he can write and read.

Nurul Haque
Community Facilitator

Nurul Haque has been working with BARCIK since 2012 as a community facilitator. As community facilitator he facilitates farmers and other occupational groups to form associations through which they can voice for the rights and access. In order to create awareness among the communities he arranges meetings, yard meeting, discussion and campaign. He also prepares news, features and reports based on the result of his work. Nurul Haque has completed Fazil (equivalent to secondary school certificate, SSC). He received training on climate change, sustainable agriculture, people led development (PLD) etc.

Lucky Akter Marufa
Community Facilitator

Lucky Akter Marufa has been working with BARCIK since 2021 as a community facilitator. As community facilitator she organizes meetings, discussions, sharing and other sorts of interaction with the community people. She motivates them to form their own associations and through which they can share their concerns and fight for their access to services and entitlements provided by both public and private institutions. She has received trainings on people led development, gender, climate change adaptation and sustainable agriculture. She has completed graduation from the National University.
