Where We Work
Dhaka
Bangladesh’s metropolis, Dhaka, is among the world’s most congested and heavily populated cities. People came to Dhaka in quest of employment and a better living. However, a tremendous population explosion has decimated Dhaka, and it now has nothing left. Nevertheless, individuals continue to migrate to Dhaka in search of higher wages. The primary source of brain drain is this mobility from all demographic groups. When people move to a new location, their talent, skills and knowledge are being depleted being exposed to new dimensions of life and livelihoods. They were forced to rely on an uncertain existence.

For all of its ongoing initiatives, BARCIK primarily plans and oversees its operations from Dhaka. The annual plans are implemented using the Dhaka-recommended activities. Contributing to reducing urban poverty and protecting the rights of disadvantaged individuals in Dhaka is BARCIK’s only initiative; the others are in different areas of activity.

BARCIK constantly seeks to use existing knowledge and contributes to making cities green and livable while also preventing further deterioration. Despite paying an elevated cost, urban poor people are denied the majority of their civic rights leading them to have less access to services and facilities provided by the state. BARCIK is working to establish a forum where these urban poor people can express their opinions and advocate for establishing their rights through collaborative initiatives in form of advocacy and dialogues. This platform is a chain where the demand of these urban poor ultimately persuade the government machineries to safeguard their rights.
