Everyone has the right to information

A discussion meeting was held in the Upazila Conference Room on the occasion of International Right to Information Day-2021 organized by Harirampur Upazila Administration of Manikganj District where BARCIK as one of the leading NGOs in the upazila took part. Executive Officer of Harirampur Upazila Md. Saiful Islam presided over the discussion. Chairman of Harirampur Upazila Parishad Dewan Saidur Rahman participated in the meeting as the chief guest. Officer in charge Harirampur Thana Syed Mizanur Rahman, Right to Information Officer Sarala Akter, BARCIK Harirampur Program Officer Muktar Hossain and others participated in the discussion.

While describing the importance of information the discussion, Harirampur Upazila Parishad Chairman Dewan Saidur Rahman said, `People should be made aware regarding the right to information through backyard meetings, discussion meetings and campaigns at different levels.” The more people know about information the more they can do to support and improve their life and livelihood. Besides, in order to to ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of the country information can become a strong weapon. Everyone has the right to information.’-he added.

Harirampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiful Islam said, `According to the government law, the information that the people need to know and the information that can be benefited by the people can be obtained from the concerned organizations.” He went on saying, `We need to do more publicity work at the field levels to educate people regarding the available services and facilities provided by either by the government or NGOs’.

Harirampur Thana in-charge Syed Mizanur Rahman said, ‘The Right to Information Act is a public welfare law. People need to be made aware of various aspects of the Right to Information Act. Harirampur Thana is working for proper implementation of this law.’

BARCIK representative official Muktar Hossain said, ‘BARCIK implements activities on the Right to Information Act directly at the field level in Harirampur upazila. Among those activities include: village level discussions meetings and campaigns.’ Besides, BARCIK set up some billboards and distribute leaflets to the people in the area where various information about public and private services are intact.
