Green coalition should be strengthened to protect the nature and culture of the coast

Shyamnagar Upazila Youth Voluntary Coordinating Committee, Upazila Green Solidarity Coordination Committee and BARCIK jointly organized meeting titled “Green youth coalition to protect the nature and culture of the coast” yesterday 28 April in Shymanagar of Satkhira district. The meeting was presided over by convener of Upazila Green coalition coordination Committee Kumud Ranjan.

Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (MP) of Satkhira-4 Constituency SM Ataul Haque Dolan was present as the chief guest of the meeting.

Convenor of Shyamnagar Upazila Press Club Eng: Alhaj¦ Sheikh Afzalur Rahman, Upazila Fisheries Officer Tushar Majumdar, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Sabina Sultana, Social Service Office Supervisor Pathik Kumar Mandal, Upazila Youth Development Office Representative Md. Janirul Islam, Public Health Office Representative Md. Nazim Uddin and others were among the special guests in the sharing meeting.

While addressing the meeting as chief guest MP SM Ataul Haque Dolan said, ‘Bangladesh is one the most vulnerable countries to climate change and coastal areas like Shyamnagar are the more vulnerable.’ He appreciated the works of BARCIK in Satkhira to combat climate change involving youths and their organizations. He said, ‘The activities that BARCIK has been facilitating in the area to create awareness and strengthen the resilience of the community involving youths and their organizations is appreciable. We must strengthen our solidarity to protecting the nature and culture of the coast.’

Convener of Shyamnagar Upazila Youth Voluntary Coordination Parishad Maruf Hossain Milan and representatives of 30 voluntary organizations greeted the chief guest with flowers and awarded crests. He was given the title of ‘Sabujbandhu’ (Friend of green initiative) by the youths in the meeting. However, in solidarity with the commitments and demands raised by the youth and green coalition committee, the chief guest expressed his opinion to play role in the implementation of these commitments to protect the environment and combat climate change impacts.

Earlier, BARCIK’s director Pavel Partha provided welcoming speech sharing the works and commitments of BARCIK to protecting the nature and environment. On the other hand, Piyush Baulia Pintu, Joint Convenor of geen coalition and Asadullah, Joint Convener of Youth Organization Committee, presented the concept paper in the meeting. President of Sundarban Press Club Md. Bilal Hossain, president of coastal Press Club Abdul Halim, senior journalist Abu Saeed, former UP member Delwara Begum and Md. Ashraf Hossain, farmer leader Sheikh Sirajul Islam, Shefali Bibi of forest women’s organization, teacher Asim Kumar Mandal, member of green coalition and BARCIK’s officials Ramkrishna Jowardar, Bablu Jowardar, Mofizur Rahman etc. were present in the meeting.
