Stop carbon emission and save all life forms

The teachers, students, journalists, development workers and youth of Rajur Rajar Collegiate School in the urban area of Netrakona district recently organized a ‘Climate Justice Bond’ with the slogan ‘Stop Carbon, Save us’. Netrakona sommilito youth society members, journalists, development workers and BARCIK’s officials were present in the event.

With the participation of more than 300 hundred students, teachers and youth, Golam Mostafa, principal of Rajur Bazar Collegiate School and president of Pran and Prakriti Club, said, ‘Carbon emissions are increasing in nature due to the luxury, profit and greed of rich countries. Climate is changing, natural disasters are increasing all over the world. People are being displaced from their native lands, agriculture is a stake losing and the biodiversity depletion is increasing day by day. He went on saying, ‘People in rich countries are not complying with the climate agreement. They are lying. In order to sustain our future generations, we need to reduce our luxuries which ultimately will reduce carbon emission and actions against nature must be stopped.
Md. Ohidur Rahman, Regional Coordinator of BARCIK, said, “Due to the greed of the rich, disasters are increasing in our country, climate refugees are increasing, jobs are being lost, biodiversity is disappearing. Therefore leaders of developed countries must fulfill the requirement of the carbon policy.”

However, students stood in front of the school with colorful placards, banners, festoons and raised slogans demanding climate justice. Students and youths hold different placards that bear the messages which read ‘Stop carbon pollution, let us live’, ‘One world, don’t disappear because of your consumption’, ‘Climate change is increasing natural disasters’, ‘Climate refugees are increasing in countries’, ‘Don’t destroy the ozone layer, we will be lost’, ‘Reduce use of fossil fuels’, ‘We want climate justice’, ‘Rich countries are responsible for climate refugees’, ‘Biodiversity is disappearing due to climate change’, ‘Build a public platform for climate justice’ etc. More than three hundred placards were shown during the event.

The speakers in the event said that we need to build a livable world for future generations. A safe place should be created for us all. Therefore, rich countries should reduce their luxury, comply with climate agreements, pay climate compensation, and reduce carbon emissions.
