We live in green and breathe in green

Tasmiya Tahura from Netrakona

Due to different unplanned development green fields, green forests, green nature are disappearing from us. The unplanned development and luxurious life has intensified the change in climate that resulted in the depletion of biodiversity and loss of green shape in the nature. However, in spite of the devastation there are still, some nature lovers who are working to preserve our pristine environment. Golam Mostafa, the principal of Rajurbazar Collegiate School in Netrakona district is one of the nature lovers who has been working to make the school campus a green campus for the past six years along with cooperation from the teachers and students.

In continuation of the green works, this year to enhance the beauty of the campus, seedlings of belliflower, rangan, rose, gandharaj flowers have been planted in the premise of the school. They do not only plant flower trees, but also the students of the school took an oath to keep their rooms clean, save water and electricity, plant three saplings every monsoon, reduce the use of polythene, etc.

The initiatives of the school have been appreciated by all. It is to mention that the school authority also initiated ‘honesty stores’ where no one sit in the store to sell stationaries. One can collect different stationaries paying the exact price of the stationaries in the absence of seller. This encourages the students to practice honesty in their life and remain honest. Besides, regional ‘Tree-Olympiad’ event was organized in 2016 to motivate the students and teacher planting trees to make their campus a green one. During that time saplings of 11 varieties of ornamental trees were planted on the premises of Rajur Bazar School. Those trees have grown and beautify the campus by making it looking fresh and green. However, BARCIK has been working with Rajur Bazar Collegiate School to develop a green campus with the tireless efforts of the school’s students and teachers and nature-loving people under the supervision of Principal Golam Mustafa.

To be noted that the initiatives have been made under the support of donor agencies named Misereor-Germany and Diakonia, Sweden.
