Sharing workshop titled “Local Governance and Effective Participation” held

dia-2BARCIK with the financial assistance from European Union and Sida and technical assistance from Diakonia today 19 February, 2015 organized a sharing workshop titled “Local Governance and Effective Participation” in Dhaka at Chayanat Sangrkitic bhaban Milon Kendra with the objective to assist in effective coordination between the local Governance and Media.

People from the different backgrounds and walks such as journalists, right activists, development activists, layers, academicians, students and cultural activists participated in the sharing workshop and shared their views. BARCIK presented two research papers titled “Standing Committee of the Union Parishod: Experience from the field” and “Political Participation of women: Social, cultural and political oraganizations”. The first paper was presented by Sudipta Karmaker, researcher of BARCIK and the second one was presented by Kazi Sufia Akhter, gender specialist and researcher.

Afroza Sultana Chaity of Somoy Television and Azharul Azad journalist and write from Dinajpur spoke on “Media and Sensitization” while Dhaka university teachers Shantonu Majumder, former UP chairman of Muksedpur Union Parisod in Gopalgonj, Lamia Islam, lecturer of political science of Jagannath University and journalists and Bangladesh Observe and Somoka also spoke on the issue of local governance and role of media in the workshop.

It is to be mentioned that welcoming speech of the sharing meeting was delivered by the country manager of Diakonia Khodeja Sultana and Executive director of BARCIK Sukanta Sen.
