Trees have life; they are not out of feelings

Ayesha Tabassum from Rajshahi

Trees are our very beneficial friends. Along friends we need also trees to help us survive on this earth. Trees are closely related to our breath as they provide us oxygen. Most of the food and daily necessities in our daily life come from trees. There is a tradition in the rural community that ‘leaves should not be removed after evening because the trees go to sleep at that time.’ We all know more or less that trees also have life.

However, it has been seen that we human beings have less feelings toward the trees. We chop down trees and torn their leaves for no reasons. Recently it has been seen that in order to hang any banners, signboards and leaflet to attract the attention of the public we inhumanly nail those advertisements on trees. We nail to the tree for nothing! This work is going on regular basis. Nailing the tree hurts the tree and may even kill the tree at some point. Trees have feelings; Nailing on the tree should not be done in any way.

Nonetheless, in order to create awareness among the mass people about the importance of trees as well as to stop nailing on trees a campaign was recently organized at Chapra and Lalpur villages of Tanor upazila of Rajshahi. Headmaster and teaching staff of Lalpur High School and community of Chapra village and Ward Councilor No. 3 of Tanor Municipality, teachers and staff of BARCIK were present on the occasion. At the awareness campaigns speakers urged the mass people to protect trees and not nail anything on the trees. They also focused on planting trees and asked the mass people not to torn leaves of trees without any reason.

The participants in the event took nails from each tree of their village and hung awareness signboards there. They said that the work will be started in all the villages of the upazila.
