Policy formulation demanded to address climate change

From Jahangir Alam Satkhira,

An urban dialogue was held in Satkhira to demand policy formulation for adaptation and mitigation to address the impacts of climate change. The dialogue was organized by the Education Culture and Diversity Protection Team of Satkhira and BARCIK in Public Library on 28 November, 2022.

In the dialogue, the speakers said, ‘Due to climate change, natural disasters are increasing in coastal areas. Coastal people are becoming destitute. Aided by losing their homes and jobs, they are forced to leave the area, migrating to cities in search of livelihood. As a result, multifaceted problems and crises have been seen in the city which is affecting the city life in every aspect. There is no alternative to create urban policies to solve this crisis.’

During this time, the speakers discussed regarding the creation of green climate fund for the city, ensuring safe, sustainable, consumption and production in the city, taking urgent steps to deal with climate change and its effects, creating opportunities for clean water and sewage for all and sustainable management, ensuring the use of rational technology for environmental protection and development of slum dwellers. They also demand separate allocation for the coast to deal with climate change.
